A three day programme on “Scientific Techniques for Seed Production of Groundnut during Summer” was organized at ICAR- DGR
A three day farmers’ training programme on “Scientific Techniques for Seed Production of Groundnut during Summer” was successfully organized during March 2-4, 2016 at ICAR- Directorate of Groundnut Research, Junagadh. A total of 30 farmers from villages of Khad Pipali, Meethapur and Aalidra of Mendarada taluka of Jungadh district have participated in the programme. These villages have been selected under “#MeraGaonMeraGaurav” scheme by this Directorate. Farmers were imparted knowledge on improved groundnut varieties for seed production, improved agronomic practices of field preparation, seed and sowing, spacing and plant stand, seed treatment, water, nutrient, and weed management, etc. for quality seed production during summer. Similarly, farmers were also trained on timely and effective management of insect-pest and diseases in groundnut, and scientific storage of groundnut seed to minimize losses caused by storage insect-pests and rodents, and preserve the viability of seeds. Subject experts from Gujarat State Seed Corporation were also invited for imparting the knowledge on procedure followed in quality seed production. A training manual of delivered lectures in Gujarati language was also provided to the farmers. A visit field, laboratories and farm machinery shed was also arranged for farmers. Farmers have shown keen interest to learn the scientific ways of seed production of summer groundnut, and have expressed thankfulness to Director, ICAR- Directorate of Groundnut Research for organizing training programme. This training programme was conducted by Dr. Ram A. Jat(Course Director), and Dr. Narendra Kumar and Dr. Sujit Kumar Bishi(Coordinators). The Director, ICAR-Directorate of Groundnut Research has appreciated the farmers for showing interest in quality seed production of groundnut during summer.
